Great Fishing

Canada is blessed to have some of the most sought after sport fish in the world. Specifically, on the rugged west coast of British Columbia. Just south of Alaska, there is a special place known as Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) where much of the great fish migrations begin. As the fish head south, our second “gem” is Northern Vancouver Island where we base our operation out of Port Hardy. These are two premiere destinations for…

All mature salmon of the Pacific grace our waters…

… there’s no argument that there are some spectacular salmon fisheries up and down the coast from California to Alaska, but the waters that surround Northern Vancouver Island (Port Hardy)  and Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte) Islands hosts the longest window of opportunity for mature migrating salmon particularly the trophy Chinook salmon. Geographically, every year all mature salmon migrate from the open waters of the Pacific Ocean where the Bering Sea spreads its cold clean nutrient enriched waters from the north. It is these conditions that provide prime feeding habitat for hungry salmon. The west coast of Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island are the first two landmass that encounter these type of conditions with salmon in close pursuit while on their migration before dispersing north to Alaska or south all the way down to California. This means we have first shot at all salmon traffic of all species (chinook, coho, chum, sockeye and pink) from different salmon runs of the whole coast. They pass through these waters from April through the end of September. No other salmon fishery can make this claim!

Let our halibut results speak for themselves…
Our great halibut fishing doesn’t ever seem to make headlines, only because it seems to take a back seat to our incredible salmon fishing. Halibut fishing can be available all year except for out of season closures.
Often described as fast and furious action…
Aside from being excellent table fare, bottom fish (lingcod and other rockfish) are abundant throughout the west coast of Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii. Their species are as numerous as their colors. Their willingness to take a variety of jigs and baits make them a great fishery for everyone.

Great fishing and conservation go hand in hand…

We all enjoy eating and sharing fish that we bring home from these fishing trips, but we would like to ask all our guests to be mindful of our great fishing and that nothing is “bottomless”. We all have a responsibility to not practice unnecessary harvesting. The sport of the catch is what makes memories… having the opportunity to harvest some fish for table-fare is a bonus. You and all our guests combined can make that difference help ensure this unique fishery continues year after year.

Catch your limit, but also be conservation conscious by limiting your catch…

We catch “amazing” here…
